My siblings and I grew up in the church, and I have always been a dedicated church member and participant. Being active in church and church groups, I would often hear testimonies of people saying how God spoke to them and gave them direction and clarity on many of life’s situations. At that time, I would often ponder, Why has God never spoken to me in that way? I always felt that perhaps my life was such a train wreck that he wouldn’t speak to someone like me. As I tell this story and reflect on where God was in my life, I realize there were times when He was speaking, but I was not in tune or in agreement with what He was saying, so I couldn’t hear His voice. But on the morning of 9/11, I can say with certainty that He was speaking to me and guiding me through the dangers of the day.
